kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantSpace it is all about Space. This is also how you handle mean bees.I have used escape boards before and they work good, but I like this way better. If the hive is three boxes I do the following. This is best done with another beekeeper. When you smoke bees they have a tendency to flee the smoke. It also causes them to eat honey or nectar. But if the hive is crowded or full it makes it harder to work them.If they are crowded and you smoke them they just come out and there you are.So If you have three boxes smoke your bees once or twice
Then crack the top box and lift it off. Then place a empty box with frames. Then put the top box back on top of that. Ok you are set.If the bees are mad and flying around go home and come back a day or two later. If the bees are ok crack the lid and smoke them.Wait ten minutes smoke them again. The bees will retreat to the open box.Remove the frames and take the honey.Simple
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantThank You Susan
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantWell the backwarsdbeekeepers got a grant for to do a film about Urban beekeeping. This was 4 years ago. It stall and wasn’t getting done.So with Meredith Hackelmans help we revived it.So now we are making it.So we might need to go and visit some of you guys doing your bee stuff. Max Wong is producing it.I got her bees 5 years ago.Its going to be about keeping bees in the city.
KirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantI think the most important thing to do is START.That should mean find a mentor.Or go to mentoring in Moorpark with honeylove.org.Get some idea about it.Find a mentor or someone to talk to.Join a forum and ask all the questions that bug all the advanced beekeepers. Then dive in
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantThe best one I have used was Ray’s he made it and it works really good. You can remove the screened cage real easy and set the bees in the shade, when ready dump them in the box where the comg is.It is the only one I have ever used that wasn’t a problem
KirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantThis is a great Movie!! I recommend every one watchs it
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantI’m going to be there.I think Max and the crew might come video this for the BBK doc!
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantYes this is a real good Confrence to attend. The enviroment is really good and so are the people. Its good to meet other beekeepers also.Go if you can.
kirkobeeoKirk AndersonParticipantHi Susan if you ever have bees that need a home let me know I need a few more hives,I had a few die out this year
