It’s quite likely they are not honey bee but are hornets, yellowjackets, etc. This link should help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characteristics_of_common_wasps_and_bees
ceebs baileyModeratorHey Jennifer!
HoneyLove rents space to members annually at our bee yards. Send me an email if you’d like more info. ceebs@honeylove.org
ceebs baileyModeratorHey Eric! Let me go check my emails. Still recovering from a little surgery I had. Stand by.
ceebs baileyModeratorNice video!
ceebs baileyModeratorHey Eric! Please email me at ceebs@honeylove.org so we can discuss your options placing your bees at the Sanctuary. Thanks!
ceebs baileyModeratorI think all of us are much less inclined to create neighbor issues surrounding our bees than this. For those of us who worked so hard to get urban beekeeping legalized, no problems is a good thing. No need to sensationalize something that’s not there; we are happy to provide education on the topic to help quell misinformed fears.

February 26, 2018 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Bee hive needs rescue near El Camino College, Torrance, CA #11109ceebs baileyModeratorHey CJ! The church will need to contact a professional beekeeper to remove these bees due to the risk involved: height, needs a team, insurance, property owners, etc. Lots of ramifications. They can check the “Rescue Bees” link on the HoneyLove website or email ceebs@honeylove.org if they need a trusted referral. But it won’t (and shouldn’t be) free.

ceebs baileyModeratorHey Missy—do you have any photos to share? Are there any live bees at all and if so, what is their behavior? It does very much sound like they’ve been poisoned. Here’s a helpful article from Hilary: http://beekeepinglikeagirl.com/how-to-save-a-poisoned-beehive/
Susan should have experience in this situation, as well. Please try to take a closer look in the morning and give me a call if you want to discuss.

ceebs baileyModeratorYes, unfortunately it has closed recently. Matt’s a good guy and I’m sure they will take care of you.

ceebs baileyModeratorNever mind. I see that you are. The bulletin board is for people looking for a place to keep bees or who have space to host. The Forum is the place to contact other beeks. No need to post on both. Carry on. Good luck with your bees!

ceebs baileyModeratorHey Claudia—Are you a HoneyLove member?

ceebs baileyModeratorYour intention will be much better served seeking out a professional, licensed, experienced bee rescuer than finding someone who does it occasionally or without proper tools or knowledge.
