If you’ve got to move hives, a hive mover is the fastest, slickest, easiest way to go!
ceebs baileyModeratorThat is a brilliant idea, Susan! Thanks!
ceebs baileyModeratorFascinating! Thanks for sharing this.
ceebs baileyModeratorIn the future, let’s recommend HoneyLove’s mentoring session at Moorpark.
ceebs baileyModeratorSusan and Josip—I’m out of town on the 28th+, but if for some reason the project gets pushed back to Friday the 31st, please count me in as a helper.

ceebs baileyModeratorIt’s called a Florida hive entrance or moving screen. Here’s a link: http://www.brushymountainbeefarm.com/Florida-Moving-Screen/productinfo/516/
ceebs baileyModeratorThis is a great opportunity! I’ve emailed a few newbees and hope they get to you first.

ceebs baileyModeratorI believe HLO has changed the name of these meetings to better reflect a symposium atmosphere. The last Sunday meetings took the place of the erstwhile BBK meetings and we altered the format to include more advanced topics than BBK did (the meetings got old fast and bored even slightly experienced beeks who stopped coming and stopped learning). What we’d like to do is have our beek community teach each other; all levels have always been welcome and encouraged.
HoneyLove members can check out Seeley’s Honeybee Democracy from the HLO library:

ceebs baileyModeratorJames—
Are you in the Homeschooling class? (Headphones?) Susan was the teacher for the class you attended.
Let’s please chat this Sunday at the meeting. So glad to hear you’re taking the next steps! We’ll help you begin on the right foot.ceebs..
ceebs baileyModeratorAh, Gary, I get it. Those were swarm boxes that a passing swarm might move into; it helps us capture them to prevent the bees from landing elsewhere and possibly being exterminated. A swarm box is not what you need.
What you’re looking for is something to put your tree swarm into to start your hive. You can capture this swarm in a plain, well ventilated cardboard box if you want to just to contain the bees for the short term but you must then get busy and get the rest of your equipment ready to house the colony.Does that answer your question?

ceebs baileyModeratorGary—
You can use a ventilated cardboard box in the meantime. What are you going to put the bees in after?
Why don’t you run down to L.A. Honey and grab a few nuc boxes? You will definitely need to get set up with supplies regardless. It’s spring.cb..
ceebs baileyModeratorBrandall—
Many of the professional rescuers listed on our referral page also do private one-on-one mentoring and/or hive management for hosts.cb..
ceebs baileyModeratorHey Thomas—
Here’s a link to our referral page:ceebs baileyModeratorTamme—unless you have all your woodware built and ready to go, bee suit, veil, equipment tools and *education,* it would be best to let this swarm move along on its own. They will only stay a few hours or days. Your best bet is to get equipped and place a baited hive or swarm box in your yard. it’s early in the season; another swarm will find you when you’re more prepared. In the meantime, become a HoneyLove annual member and come to lots of workshops.
