An extra large hive near a church entrance, on a high tree branch, needs to be rescued/relocated. Lots of bees in an established hive which is visible from the ground. The bee activity has neighbors concerned. Can anyone rescue this XL hive?
Hey CJ! The church will need to contact a professional beekeeper to remove these bees due to the risk involved: height, needs a team, insurance, property owners, etc. Lots of ramifications. They can check the “Rescue Bees” link on the HoneyLove website or email ceebs@honeylove.org if they need a trusted referral. But it won’t (and shouldn’t be) free.
ceebs..
Thanks for your prompt reply 🙂 This is my 1st post, so I should have been clearer in the description. The hive is near the church entrance, but the tree is actually on the adjacent residential property. Contacted 2 local beekeepers today, one is no longer able to conduct rescues; the 2nd beekeeper will graciously come tomorrow to check out the height, as it appears a cherry-picker may be needed. Still hoping to “save the bees”, at little/no expense, if possible. Will pursue your other suggestions.
CJ Mathiowetz—I believe this may be the colony that the cul de sac neighbor called me about yesterday. “Cindy” at 15915 Atkinson Ave. Is this correct? I am planning to look at it today, but Cindy reports it is 20 feet in the air and I am wondering who is planning to pay for this expensive removal, if it can even be accessed? Please call me at 310-421-6892 if this is the colony I think it is. Susan Rudnicki, beekeeper
Thanks Susan for checking out the bee colony, and educating us on the habits of these “little natural wonders”. We will share the good news with all the neighbors and the church community. YEA–Saving the bees!! CJ
