    Hi Chelsea
Thanks for the post. I have been using a similar book to get my hive started and I too have bought most of the necessary equipment (other than the smoker and scraper) simultaneously with my hive. I think this forum has been a great resource for me and for the most part, I really appreciate all the helpful comments. I have been keeping an eye on the honeylove website so that I can attend some of the workshop but it seems that most of the meetings are for “advanced beeks”. Would this sort of meeting be open to beginners as well or are there meetings designed specifically for the new beekeeper??
    Thanks

@ enci.. Thanks for the suggestion!
@elisha .. Point well made! Sometimes I think some people forget that there are many beginner bee keepers and the point of this forum is to exchange ideas as well as learn new tips. If we were all “experts” then a discussion like this would be inherently unnecessary. For those of you who provide snarky, condescending responses. All I can say is thank you for the info but please leave the attitude at home. Surely you wouldn’t approach members of your community like this in person, so please don’t use the internet as veil to promote your nastiness.

    Hello Enci / Elisha,
Just curious, what exactly did you use to bait your hives? I have some honey comb and some lemongrass oil and would like to use this to attract. I am just wondering what is the best approach towards application.
    Thanks
    Michelle

    Hi Elisha,
Thank you for your reply. I have read in several places that using honeycomb is a good attractant for luring a new swarm; though I will take your advice into consideration as well.
I have recently purchased a “magical” product from a beekeeper up in northern California who claims that her potion is the best on the market. We will see …

Thank you again for your help.

hello, i have just purchased my first beehive (and accessory equipment). i live in redondo beach and am also debating whether i should buy my bees or wait and see if they will come on their own. the frames that came with my hive already have the foundation included in them, which is apparently coated with beeswax. would this be sufficient to attract the bees or should i rub honey or some other substance on the foundations to expedite the process??
    thanks
    Michelle
