I do have some empty spaces I can easily get ride of. I’ll wait for the rain to stop before doing so.
My preference goes toward the mechanical solutions first.
I will give those beetles a good oil bath before bringing some Crisco dessert at their table.Building an oil trap seems easy enough for me to give it a try.
Expect some pictures!Thank you all!
Karim SahliParticipantHi Susan,
I found this image somewhere on Reddit. It seems to be from a russian speaking website call ria.ru. I wasn’t able to find the source nor the post that came with it.
Maybe we should make a little video debunking the shown tricks and see if it turns out true or not?Karim SahliParticipantKarim SahliParticipant- This reply was modified 11 years, 8 months ago by Karim Sahli.
Karim SahliParticipantGREAT GREAT tip! I will try that too.
Karim SahliParticipantHello, I am finding your post only now — sorry for the delay.
Since the last time I posted this question, a lot happened. The swarm left the beehive a third time and stayed just under the nuke. Then got back into it and got out of it again. It then stayed there, getting smaller each day and finally disappeared. To answer your questions:
1. Are the bees making comb?
They started to do so but not following the frames.2. Are there any queen cells?
Nope.3. What was the time between the first swarm and when you moved the combs around?
Two weeks.4. What type of bees? (AHB, European, etc?)
I don’t have the expertise to tell.5. Are you seeing honey/nectar/pollen/eggs in the cells?
The combs were small to start with. Pollen was there but very little number of broods.Thank you!
Karim SahliParticipantI can not make it but I would be happy to give some phone calls (I already sign up the petition.)
Any phone numbers?
Karim SahliParticipantThank you all for your help!
My gaiters are on their way.Karim SahliParticipantI cleaned up the hive. No more moth cells. No more disgusting wax frames.
Thank you all for your kind help.
Karim SahliParticipantThank you Rob!
