Tagged: Saving Honeybees
Climate change, pollution and drought has played havoc on nature here. In 2009 feral honeybees came to my watermelon while I was doing yard work. I added a bit of sugar and more came. They cleaned the rind. That set me on a course that grew into a routine. Now when the temperature is above 53 degrees they cart away in a week about 30 pounds of pureed fruit and 25 pounds of white sugar inoculated with lemongrass oil and oregano oil. I located one hive in a tree 3 blocks from home by a creek. That hive swarms regularly. Four types of honeybee are regulars at the feeder array. Later this spring I will post photos of the system. Question: Would you advise me on a better formulation for medicating the bees and optimizing nutrition?
