Honey Bees Love ? LAVENDER

Latin Name: Lavandula
Color: Purple
Height: 18”

How to grow: Lavender grows well in mediterranean climates.  Plant it in bright sun, in soil with good drainage. It can also be planted in a small pot, in a mixture of gravel and light soil.

The uses: Because of its soothing antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender is excellent for the skin. After the flowers wilt, dry sprigs upside down. Once dried, collect just the purple heads and toss a handful into boiling water to use as a face steam bath. It is also edible and can be used as a spice, or added to tea for a calming evening beverage.

World renowned Biodynamic Beekeeper Gunther Hauk says in Queen of the Sun:

“I think the message the bees are giving us now that they are threatening to disappear from the earth is that they are telling us to change our ways, to become stewards, to become nurturers, to become true caretakers. We are in such a habit of exploiting nature for our own ends and now we have to learn how to care for it. The honey bees right now I think are saying if you continue your ways, I’m withdrawing, you can go the way you are going without me and that will not be a long time that we will be going without the honey bee.”

PLEASE SIGN OUR NEW PETITION : Legalize Urban Beekeeping in Los Angeles!!

Atlanta, New York, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Spokane, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver and most recently Santa Monica have all taken decisive action and legalized urban beekeeping. Los Angeles currently outlaws beekeeping in residential areas, and the city’s policy is to exterminate all feral honey bees. With worldwide bee populations threatened with Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and urban beekeeping more popular than ever, this policy needs to change. We believe it to be a necessary and just measure requiring immediate action.
