I just got this message from a friend who lives in Beachwood Canyon. A beekeeper in the making! Can anyone help set them up?
Hey Kathy – We have a honey bee situation (a whole hive in one of the railroad ties/wood stairway down to the backyard). I really wanna extract them and get them in some hive-boxes so we can keep the bees but not have them in the middle of the stairs. I keep reaching out to people in the LA bee community with no luck. Do you think you might be able to help or would you know someone who I could hire for a few hours to help me locate the queen and do the transfer safely?
I am familiar with this situation from years ago when I had a hive removal from the same spot. A pretty easy rescue. The railroad ties are hollow so you just pull the top of the step off and pull them. Easy to get to.
Oh and you can email me at kathrynbakken@gmail.com for specifics.
