New research on Vitellogenin stores and their important role in bee health

Those of you keeping bees should be aware of the well written information on Randy Oliver’s “Scientific Beekeeper” site where I recently read this new information about the important storage area of bee’s bodies called the “vitellogenin stores” Such behavior as when to swarm, how to feed young larvae, when to transition to different jobs, etc are being found to be regulated by this storage area of the bee body. The mantra that varroa mites feed on the hemolymph of bees has been found to be incorrect, but that they feed on the vitellogenin stores instead.
