Other than providing an alternate water source that they will probably ignore, does anyone have any suggestions to keep several hundred bees from congregating everyday on the edge of an infinity swimming pool?

I’m curious about this as well. Our bees dive into the pool and we are out there every morning and late afternoon, rescuing whatever we can pull out of the pool before they drown. 🙁

There is nothing to be done—I got a call from a homeowner annoyed with the bees clogging his fountain intake pump, as they drowned and got caught in the screen. I told him, clean the screen more often, put a sponge in the water to allow them to crawl out or land more easily without being pulled under the water.

    Hello everybody,
To have less bees drown in your pool you can buy a entrance feeder and put water in it and the bees will drink water from there. What we do is put alot of buckets out with water in them and a sponge floating in each. Its been said that chlorine attracts bees and the salt pools salt also attracts bees.Chlorine and salt is not healthy for your bees. But just in case the bees go in to your pool have a big sponge for them to land on safely and to drink fome instead of diving in and forgeting they cant swim.

    God Bless,
    Elisha

Susan – I’ve heard adding Pinesol to water will discourage bees. It might be worth a try in a water fountain.

Max—since my own fountain attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and all sorts of other small birds to drink and sometimes bathe, I would not want them consuming Pinesol. The gutters around here, where I see birds drinking, are already a polluted mess of oil, pesticides and fertilizer, and dog poop runoff (and who knows what else!) so I would like at least one clean source they can have.
It pays to always consider the consequences of what we do to change the things we don’t like.
