Tagged: apiary, apiary registration, la county, los angeles
Just received an email from LA County with an ask that everyone makes sure their annual registration is up to date!
“I am the new supervising inspector of the LA County Agriculture Bee Program. I have recently been given this responsibility and have gone into the field to meet many registered beekeepers. I am interested in knowing what kind of pest problems, diseases, total number of apiaries, feral beekeepers vs commercial, kind of apiary sites and how we may be of service to our beekeepers. The reason I write this to you is that I saw a great article in the Whittier Daily News recently about a fireman saving feral bees and finding them a home. Its great to know we have such an interest in helping our bees in the LA urban area. I did notice though that many of the names I saw in the article are not familiar so I was wondering if you could put the word out regarding registration requirements of beekeepers with the LA County Agriculture Commissioners office (Cal Food & Ag Code Div 13 Sect 29040). Attached is a registration form and notification letter for 2015, they can also be found on our website at http://acwm.lacounty.gov. It would be great to have you all on board, if not already. Thank you very much and look forward to working with you.”

Thanks Chelsea! Will send my form today.
Do you have links to Ventura County Apiary forms?
Hi Julie—sure thing!
Here is a link to the Ventura County Apiary Registration Form: http://honeylove.org/resources/
Wow—I looked at the requirements for Ventura registration and it specifies 400 ft from any dwelling and 150 ft from any road. Most lots would not qualify
I saw that too. Seems awfully restrictive.
