Does a newly hived swarm nasonove only if the queen is present or under any circumstances? As a new beekeeper I was told several times that this indicated that one had caught the queen, but in reading new material (i.e. Michael Bush), it seems that nasonoving is simply a homing behavior.

What has anyone else learned on this behavior? Thanks.

Any colony of bees will Nasonov if disturbed. This is easily seen by pulling a frame and shaking the bees off back into the hive. They will start immediately

Thanks. So it has bupkis to do with the queen. Yes?
Underscores the importance of doing research reading and not just parroting anecdotal info another beekeeper tells you.

Right, you can’t rely on it to indicate the queen.
